Running in Lumpini Park: loop distance, hours, lockers and run clubs
A runner's guide to Lumpini Park, Bangkok: the 2.5 km loop, opening hours, lockers and showers, the 6 PM anthem, how to link to Benjakitti, and the clubs that run there.
Lumpini is Bangkok's original running park and still its busiest: a flat, car-free loop right next to Silom, open before sunrise. Here's everything you need for your first run there.
The essentials
- Loop: about 2.5 km around the park on paved paths, with distance markers — handy for tempo runs and counting laps.
- Hours: opens at 4:30 AM and closes in the evening (around 9 PM; check the posted times at the gates).
- Getting there: MRT Lumphini, MRT Silom or BTS Sala Daeng.
- Lockers: free lockers are available — bring your own padlock. Showers near the Sala Daeng entrance cost a small fee.
- Water: vendors around the gates sell water and drinks; bring cash.
Things to know
- The 6 PM anthem: the national anthem plays over the speakers at 6 PM and everyone stops and stands still for about a minute — runners too.
- Share the path: keep to one side so faster runners can pass, and watch for walkers and cyclists.
- The lizards: hundreds of large water monitors live around the lakes. They're harmless if you leave them alone.
- Busiest times: 5–7 AM and 5–8 PM. Mid-morning is quiet but hot.
Go further: the Green Mile to Benjakitti
From Lumpini, the Green Mile, a 1.3 km elevated walkway, leads over the traffic to Benjakitti Forest Park. Combine both parks and the walkway for a car-free route of roughly 8–10 km — the standard long run in central Bangkok. See our Benjakitti running guide.
